Manchikalalu NGO is a non-religious social organisation. was born at Padua, northern Italy, in 2006. It is the outcome of the initiative of several people interested in improving the social and moral conditions of street children and orphans in Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. The promoters of this initiative and founding partners are five volunteers from Italy. Each partner has spent several months in India, focusing on the problems faced by and on the development of street children. Initially we started these projects by supporting an already existing centre for street children. The name of the organisation “Manchikalalu” comes from the dialect spoken in the state of Andhra Pradesh (see the map) - the word “telugu” means “sweet dreams” .
The driving force behind the volunteers is one of helping children on the streets to have their own dreams and realise them, through the possibility of a better life and the opportunity to have an education.
Manchikalalu was born with the objective to improve the lives of children on the streets of India. It aims to give them the opportunity to grow-up, through good diets, health assistance and schooling.
In other words it aims to help the children to follow their dreams and realise their potential as well as giving them a more formal education.
This great collaboration has increased the volunteers’ experience, dealing face to face with the positive and negative aspects of working in the country, so different from our culture, mentality and traditions.
Manchikalalu decided to follow his own path, conceiving and administering the project in a direct way, concentrating all the resources at Bhavitha house, the family home managed by the association.
